Description

From 1943-1944, Bavarian towns were increasingly threatened by air raids by the Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Force. Ingolstadt was spared from bombing until January 1945 till the last day the war when the city was repeatedly hit with thousands of tonnes of fragmentation and incendiary bombs by Allied air attacks. The USAF bombed military targets by day and the RAF bombed civilian targets by night. The city was almost totally destroyed when the city commander surrendured on April 26, 1945.
