British 7th Regiment Royal Fusiliers Gorget

Description

American Revolutionary War, Royal Fusiliers Officer's Gorget: The hand engraved Royal Arms is typical for a British gorget, but this one has some unique elements. Below the Royal cipher is the regimental Tudor rose inside a garter ribbon. The upper left of the gorget is engraved with VII-TH. within a wreath, suspended from a ribbon bow, a Roman breastplate before a scimitar, pike, and a club. The upper right is engraved with REGT. within a wreath, suspended from a ribbon bow, a Gallic helmet before a pole-axe, a guidon, and a dagger. Hand hammered solid brass, 4.25 x 4.25 inches, 51.95 gm, traces of mercury guilding, cloth and leather backing missing, acid etched engraving (the sign of a lower quality maker), moderate to heavy wear.
