Kurt Schmalz House Inaugeration Badge Spa Harzburg - Feb. 4 1934
Description
Formerly the Johannis Freemason's lodge in Bad Harzburg: On Dec 7, 1933 the nazi party coerced a forced sale of the lodge house for the fire sale price of 25,000 marks, a token price since the members knew the state would soon confiscate it. On that same day, deputy Gauleiter Kurt Schmalz took possession of the mansion. On January 8, 1934 the German Ministry of the Interior ordered the disbandment of Freemasonry and the the confiscation of the property of all Lodges. On Feb. 4 1934 the party officially renamed the house and it became a Kreis Headquarters. Party leaders and prominent members met on the outside staircase around Schmalz and the Minister of State Alpers. This scarce badge was struck as a remembrance of that ceremony, probably given or sold to party members of the gau. Tombac, 55 x 40 mm, soldered brass pin, excellent even color, very light wear.
