Description

A relatively large and heavy diestruck badge in bronze commemorating the 10 year anniversary of the NSDAP in Gau Mecklenburg-Lübeck. The size and weight indicate to me that the badge was actually an award rather than a day badge. The detail is superb, with a wonderfully detailed flying eagle clutching a swastika flag with swastika and ribboned poletop. The badge reads, translated, '1925-35 Gau Mecklenbg Lübeck 10 Years in Loyalty to the Führer in June 1935 Schwerin'. The badge is surrounded with a laurel leaf border, signifying victory, with another small swastika in a wreath at the bottom center. This is the first example I've seen of the badge, and it can't have been awarded in large numbers, judging by the time frame commemorated. It might have been locally ordered by the Gauleiter and then perhaps superceded by the standard Gau badge. A scarce award in excellent condition! (description by Craig Gottlieb)
