Description
The Deutscher Reichsarbeitsdienst [German State Labour Service] or RAD stated off as the Freiwilliger Arbeitsdienst [Voluntary Labour Service] or FAD in 1931. It gave the unemployed work and was run under the State Institution for Employment and Unemployment Insurance. After the NSDAP gained power in 1933 the FAD was renamed the NS Arbeitsdienst (NSAD) or Nazi Labour Service. This was an independent organization under the rule of the Nazi Party. In 1934 Hitler appointed Konstantin Hierl State Commissioner for the Labour Service and renamed it the Reichs Arbeitsdienst (RAD).
